Two of the five suspects arrested in connection with a high-profile R5 million cocaine smuggling case at OR Tambo International Airport have been granted bail, marking a significant development in the ongoing investigation.
The two accused were each granted bail of R15,000 after appearing in court on charges of contravening the Drugs and Drug Trafficking Act.
It has further emerged that one of the accused, Vuyokazi Toko, has a prior conviction for fraud dating back to 2010, stemming from an incident that also took place at OR Tambo International Airport, raising concerns about repeat offences linked to the facility despite being granted bail.
The case has been postponed to 4 August for further proceedings as investigations into the alleged smuggling operation continue.
