The South African Weather Service has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning for severe thunderstorms expected to impact parts of Gauteng, Mpumalanga, and Limpopo from 13 to 14 April 2026.
According to the weather authority, the storms are likely to bring heavy rainfall, strong winds, and possible hail, which could result in localized damage to infrastructure, informal settlements, vehicles, and livestock. Authorities have also warned of potential disruptions to livelihoods in affected communities.
“A high likelihood of minor impacts due to severe thunderstorms is expected, with possible localised damage to infrastructure, settlements (informal), property, vehicles, livelihood and livestock,” the weather service said.
The warning highlights that conditions may be more intense over parts of Gauteng and Mpumalanga, with the escarpment areas of Mpumalanga expected to be particularly affected.
Residents in the affected provinces are urged to remain alert, avoid flooded roads, and take necessary precautions to safeguard property and personal safety during the period of the warning.
