Residents in parts of eastern Pretoria are being urged to prepare for possible water supply interruptions as the City of Tshwane announces planned maintenance on the Hatherley Water Meter.
According to the City’s Water and Sanitation Business Unit, Rand Water will carry out essential maintenance work from Sunday evening, 8 February, until Monday morning, 9 February 2026. The operation is expected to last 14 hours, starting at 18:00 on Sunday and concluding at 08:00 on Monday.
The maintenance will involve the replacement of the existing Hatherley water meter, a move aimed at improving the efficiency and reliability of the city’s water supply network.
Areas likely to be affected include all extensions in Mamelodi and Nellmapius
The City has cautioned that other surrounding areas may also experience disruptions, even if not specifically listed, and has apologised in advance for any inconvenience caused.
As part of water conservation efforts during the maintenance period, residents are encouraged to use water sparingly. The City has advised against activities such as watering gardens, washing cars, filling swimming pools, and cleaning pavements with hosepipes. Residents are also urged to flush toilets only when necessary and to close taps while brushing teeth.
The maintenance forms part of the City of Tshwane’s broader efforts to strengthen water infrastructure and ensure a more stable and sustainable water supply for residents.
