Kanye West’s Jo’burg Concert: Ticket Details, High Prices, and Skepticism

American rapper Kanye West, now known as Ye, is officially scheduled to perform at Johannesburg’s Ellis Park Stadium on Saturday, December 13th. However, the ticket sales process and the event’s organizers are being met with significant skepticism following a string of recent concert cancellations in South Africa.

Pre-sale tickets for the one-day concert are now live on the TicketPro platform. Prices are steep, ranging from R850 for general access to a premium tier costing R4,865. The pre-sale, which requires a unique code obtained via prior registration, will only run until 9 pm tonight.

The event is being organized by The Monyake Group, a local live-entertainment company that has primarily worked in the gospel and faith-based production space. This has led to caution among potential concert-goers, with many expressing concerns online about the company’s ability to pull off a stadium-scale international show.

This skepticism is fueled by recent high-profile disappointments, including the failed Burna Boy performance last year and the cancelled Blue concert, for which fans are still awaiting refunds as the promoting company faces liquidation.

The Monyake Group has previously defended its capability, telling Independent Media that Ye’s artistic evolution and catalogue are “perfectly aligned with our passion to create culturally relevant and spiritually healthy experiences at stadium scale.”

This concert has already been rescheduled once; it was originally set for September 23rd at FNB Stadium but was postponed due to pending legal proceedings before being moved to Ellis Park. Given the history of cancelled events and the promoter’s relative anonymity, fans are advised to proceed with caution before purchasing tickets.
