The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has announced that its Online Admissions System will reopen for late applications for Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners on 17 December 2025.
This phase is aimed at parents and guardians who either did not apply during the main application period or have incomplete applications for the 2026 academic year.
According to the department, only schools with available spaces will be visible during the late application window. Parents will be allowed to choose one school from this list, and once the learner is placed, the placement will be final.
GDE emphasises that parents applying during this period will not be allowed to decline the placement, nor will objections or appeals be accepted. The department says this rule ensures fairness and efficient finalisation of remaining placements.
