Members of the Gauteng Traffic Police, South African Police Service, patrollers and the Road Safety Promotion Unit took part in the Easter Arrive Alive campaign launch held in Merafong City Local Municipality at the intersection of the N12 and R500.
The Gauteng Department of Community Safety officially rolled out the campaign as part of efforts to promote safer road use during the busy Easter travel period.
Authorities say the primary goal of the campaign is to raise awareness about road safety ahead of increased traffic volumes expected over the holiday. The initiative also aims to encourage responsible driving behaviour and reinforce adherence to traffic laws in order to reduce road fatalities.
“The campaign serves as a reminder to all road users to prioritise safety, remain vigilant, and ensure that they arrive at their destinations alive,” the department said.
As part of the programme, law enforcement officers have also intensified revenue collection operations, while a candlelight prayer was held in remembrance of those who have lost their lives on the roads. The memorial further reinforced the urgent need for safer road use across the province.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to curb road accidents and build a culture of responsible driving across Gauteng.
