The City of Tshwane has intensified its water conservation efforts as part of National Water Week, engaging hundreds of learners and community members in an awareness campaign in Mamelodi.
In collaboration with Rand Water, Department of Water and Sanitation, Gauteng Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, and Gauteng Community Safety, the city hosted an educational event at Tshimollo Primary School.
The initiative brought together approximately 370 learners, educators, and parents, focusing on raising awareness about the importance of water conservation. Through interactive sessions and discussions, participants were encouraged to adopt responsible water usage habits in their daily lives.
Officials highlighted that the campaign forms part of broader efforts to instill a culture of sustainability among young people and communities. The message, reinforced throughout the event, emphasised that “every drop counts” in the face of growing water challenges.
National Water Week is an annual campaign aimed at educating South Africans about water scarcity and promoting long-term behavioral change to protect the country’s limited water resources.
