The City of Tshwane has informed residents that the annual swimming season for its free‑standing public swimming pools has officially closed on April 7th 2026. The closure comes after the city faced operational challenges, including a shortage of liquid chlorine gas cylinders, but ensured that most pools remained accessible throughout the season.
The following free‑standing swimming pools will be affected by the temporary closure:
- Pretoria North
- Soshanguve
- Club Rendezvous Splash Pool
- Deon Malherbe
- Hillcrest (closed from 1 April 2026 for critical repairs)
- Tjaard van Vuuren
- Sunnyside
- Atteridgeville
- Les Marais
- Gert van Schalkwyk
- Saulsville
- Laudium (closed from 1 April 2026 for repairs)
- Feresterust
- Mamelodi East
- Mamelodi West
- Zita Park
- Bronkhorstspruit
- Zithobeni
“Meanwhile, the Hillcrest Swimming Pool temporarily closed on Wednesday, 01 April 2026, to allow essential renovations at the facility. The said renovations entail improvements to the grandstand, ablution facilities, and administrative offices to ensure the facility’s compliance with applicable health and safety regulations.”
The Laudium Swimming Pool was also closed on Wednesday, 01 April 2026 for inevitable repair work.
All affected facilities will reopen during the spring season. The City of Tshwane apologises for any inconvenience and appreciates the public’s understanding while it undertakes works to enhance the quality and safety of its recreational facilities.
