The Alexandra community has been left in shock following the brutal killing of well-known businessman and community leader, Vincent “Vinny” Ndima, who was shot dead in the early hours of Monday morning.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred at the corner of 13th Avenue and 11th Avenue, Joe Nhlanhla Street, when Ndima and his close friend, Thabo Mahane, were ambushed by heavily armed men while driving.

Reports indicate that the attackers opened fire on their vehicle, unleashing a hail of bullets. More than 40 spent cartridges were recovered at the scene. Ndima, popularly known as Vinny, was not only a successful businessman but also served as the President of the Alexandra Parliament, a community-based organisation that addresses social and developmental issues in the township.

He was widely respected for his efforts to uplift the community, particularly through initiatives aimed at fighting poverty and crime. Over the years, Vinny became known for donating food parcels to struggling families, assisting with funeral costs, and even renovating homes for the needy—often in collaboration with local councillors and civic organisations.

News of his death has sent shockwaves through Alexandra, with many residents describing him as “a pillar of the community” and “a man who truly cared for the people.”

Meanwhile, police have confirmed that a case of murder and attempted murder has been opened, and they are appealing to anyone with information to come forward. The motive for the shooting is not yet known, but investigations are underway.

As Alexandra mourns one of its most active community leaders, residents are calling for justice and an end to the violent crime that continues to plague the township.
