Tshwane Invites Public Input on Key Development Plans Amid Ongoing Hammanskraal Water Concerns

The City of Tshwane has called on residents and stakeholders to participate in a series of public meetings to comment on its draft 2026/27 Integrated Development Plan (IDP), Medium-Term Revenue and Expenditure Framework (MTREF), and Property Rates Policy and By-law.

The invitation, issued by Speaker of Council Cllr Mncedi Ndzwanana, outlines opportunities for community members to engage directly with the city’s planning and budgeting processes. The meetings are scheduled to take place across Region 2, including an in-person session at Hammanskraal Community Hall on 18 April 2026, as well as a virtual meeting hosted on Microsoft Teams on 23 April.

This public participation process comes at a time when the city remains under scrutiny following a recent incident involving Nasiphi Moya, who issued an apology earlier this week after arriving late to a critical meeting addressing the ongoing water crisis in Hammanskraal. The delay drew criticism from community members who have long expressed frustration over water quality and service delivery challenges in the area.

The overlap of these developments has placed renewed focus on governance and accountability within the municipality, particularly as residents are now being asked to contribute input on future planning and resource allocation. Observers note that the timing of the public consultations could provide a platform for affected communities, especially those in Hammanskraal, to voice their concerns more directly.

Residents are encouraged to review the draft documents, available on the city’s website and at public libraries, and submit written comments before the closing date of 4 May 2026 at 16:00.
