Tolashe Awaits Parliamentary Inquiry Over Undisclosed Gifts

Social Development Minister Sisisi Tolashe has stated that she is still waiting for both Parliament and the African National Congress (ANC) to formally request an explanation regarding allegations that she failed to disclose donated vehicles.

The controversy stems from claims that two vehicles, reportedly donated by Chinese benefactors to the ANC Women’s League (ANCWL), were not properly declared. It is further alleged that Tolashe may have given these vehicles to her children, raising concerns about transparency and accountability.

Speaking to the media in Mdantsane in the Eastern Cape, Tolashe maintained that she has not yet been officially contacted by either Parliament or the National Assembly regarding the matter. She emphasized that any determination of whether she misled Parliament lies within its authority.

“I am a member of Parliament before I am a Minister, and I remain accountable to it,” she said, adding that she has not received any communication suggesting wrongdoing.

The allegations have sparked strong political reactions, with the Democratic Alliance (DA) and ActionSA calling for her removal from office. ActionSA has also taken further steps by filing criminal charges against her, intensifying pressure on the minister.

As scrutiny grows, attention now turns to whether Parliament will initiate formal proceedings to address the claims and determine the next course of action.
