MK Party raises fresh concerns over IEC credibility ahead of 2026 local elections

South Africa’s Umkhonto weSizwe Party has again questioned the credibility of the Independent Electoral Commission after President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that local government elections will take place on 4 November 2026.

The party is currently contesting the outcome of the 2024 general elections in the Electoral Court, with the case set to be heard on 18 June.

According to the MK Party, the IEC tampered with the live Election Results System, claiming the changes were meant to improve updates, but this allegedly led to a suspicious outage lasting two and a half hours.
