Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane will brief parents on the upcoming learner placement period for the 2026 Online Admissions for Grade 1 and 8 learners. The media briefing is scheduled for Sunday, 12 October 2025, at Parktown High School for Girls in Parkview, Johannesburg, starting at 10:00 AM.
The announcement comes as the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) prepares to officially begin the placement period on Thursday, 16 October 2025. During this phase, placement offers will be sent to parents and guardians who completed their applications during the recent admissions window.
According to the department, this year’s placement process aims to be more efficient and transparent, following improvements to the online admissions system. The GDE has emphasized that parents who applied on time will receive placement offers directly via SMS and email. Learners who are not initially placed will continue to be assisted until all are accommodated.
MEC Chiloane is also expected to provide an update on Gauteng’s readiness for the upcoming 2025 October/November National Senior Certificate (NSC) Examinations, confirming that all logistical and administrative measures are in place for a smooth examination period.
The GDE’s spokesperson, Steve Mabona, encouraged members of the media to attend the briefing, which will also feature insights from officials responsible for online placements and examinations.
“The department remains committed to ensuring that every learner has a place at a school in Gauteng. Our team has worked tirelessly to strengthen systems that improve placement efficiency and enhance communication with parents,” said Mabona.
Parents and guardians are urged to monitor official GDE communication channels for real-time updates.
