Kaizer Chiefs Pair Head to Siwelele on Season-Long Loan

Kaizer Chiefs youngsters Samkelo Zwane and Happy Mashiane have sealed loan moves to Betway Premiership outfit Siwelele FC, just before the close of the transfer window on Monday, 22 September.

The duo, both products of the Chiefs academy, had struggled for minutes under coach Nasreddine Nabi this season and were among those earmarked for loan deals. Their switch to Siwelele — a club recently acquired and eager to strengthen its squad — gives them a fresh opportunity to prove themselves.

Zwane, a 23-year-old defensive midfielder, is expected to add steel and depth in the middle of the park. Despite Nabi’s admiration, he managed only 13 appearances last season, most of them off the bench. He will be hoping regular game time at Siwelele reignites his progress.

Mashiane, 27, will provide both versatility and much-needed cover at left back, especially with Neo Rapoo away on FIFA U-20 World Cup duty. Capable of operating as a winger too, Mashiane’s move offers him a chance to rebuild his career after limited appearances and a decline in form following his 2021 CAF Champions League final red card against Al Ahly.

In addition to the Chiefs pair, Siwelele also announced the arrival of former Orlando Pirates striker Zakhele Lepasa on a free transfer. However, uncertainty lingers over the future of Kegan Johannes, whose loan move from Mamelodi Sundowns was announced but has not been finalised.

For Zwane and Mashiane, the move to Siwelele represents not only a chance for more playing time but also the possibility of restoring confidence and form in a new environment.
