International Pentecostal Holiness Church (IPHC) faction leader Michael “Mike” Sandlana has been denied bail by the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court, meaning he will remain in custody until his next court appearance.
Sandlana faces serious corruption and money-laundering charges, linked to allegations that millions of rand were paid to influence court decisions during a long-running leadership dispute within the IPHC. Prosecutors argued that his release could pose a flight risk and potentially interfere with witnesses or the investigation.
The case forms part of a broader matter involving several accused, including a Gauteng High Court judge, her son, and Sandlana’s co-accused, some of whom were granted bail under strict conditions. The court, however, ruled that Sandlana’s position, resources, and influence justified keeping him in custody.
The case has drawn national attention, highlighting concerns about judicial integrity and deep divisions within one of South Africa’s largest Pentecostal churches. The matter is expected to return to court in early 2026 as investigations continue.
