Dinoto Technical Deputy Principal Shot While Entering School Premises

The Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has expressed deep shock and concern following a shooting incident that occurred on Friday morning at Dinoto Technical Secondary School in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni.

According to preliminary reports, the Deputy Principal of the school was shot while entering the school premises on 7 November 2025. He sustained injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he is currently receiving medical care.

Police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In response, psychosocial support teams, including officials from the Ekurhuleni North District, have been dispatched to the school to provide counselling and emotional support to educators, learners, and staff who may have been traumatised.

Despite the tragic event, the school has continued with the ongoing National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations under strict monitoring to minimise disruption and maintain a safe environment for learners.

Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane condemned the attack, describing it as senseless and unacceptable.

“We are deeply shocked by this incident. Schools are meant to be safe spaces for both learners and educators. The Department condemns this senseless act of violence in the strongest possible terms. We wish the Deputy Principal a full and speedy recovery, and we urge law enforcement authorities to ensure that those responsible are swiftly brought to justice,” said Chiloane.

The Department reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of learners and staff across schools in the province while working closely with law enforcement to bring the perpetrators to book.
