Bloemfontein High Court to Hear Cholota’s Special Plea in Asbestos Corruption Case

The Free State High Court in Bloemfontein is set to hear outstanding issues raised by Moroadi Cholota in her special plea to be removed as an accused in the R255 million asbestos roof removal corruption case.

The hearing follows a directive from the Constitutional Court, which ruled that certain grounds forming part of Cholota’s special plea were not adequately addressed by the High Court and should be reconsidered.

Cholota, a former personal assistant to ex-Free State Premier Ace Magashule, is viewed as a key link between several of the accused in the matter. She alleges that she was subjected to torture by South African investigators while in the United States and claims that interviews conducted during that time did not follow proper legal procedures.

She has also told the court that she was, on one occasion, interrogated alone as the only woman in a room full of men, which she believes was intended to intimidate her.

Cholota’s legal team has indicated that they are fully prepared to vigorously pursue the matter as the court revisits her special plea
