TMPD Shuts Down Five Non-Compliant Food Outlets, Arrests Eight in Drug Crackdown

The Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department (TMPD) has shut down five food outlets and arrested eight individuals during coordinated law-enforcement operations carried out across the City of Tshwane on Thursday, 8 January 2026.

According to TMPD, the By-laws Unit, working alongside City of Tshwane officials, conducted business compliance inspections in the Gezina area. More than 20 shops were visited during the operation, with officers issuing several Section 56 notices to business owners found to be operating in violation of municipal by-laws.

As a result of serious non-compliance, five businesses including well-known food outlets were ordered to close after failing to meet the required health and operational standards.

Meanwhile, in Centurion, TMPD regional policing officers intensified crime prevention operations in Irene and Lyttleton. These efforts led to the arrest of eight suspects for possession of drugs.

TMPD spokespersons said the operations form part of the department’s ongoing strategy to enforce municipal by-laws, ensure business compliance, and combat crime across the metro.

“The City of Tshwane remains committed to maintaining law and order, protecting communities, and ensuring that businesses operate within the law,” the department said, adding that similar operations will continue throughout the year.

Residents and business owners have been urged to comply with municipal regulations and to report any illegal activities to authorities.
