DA Wins Ward 28 in Emfuleni from ANC

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has secured victory in Ward 28 in Emfuleni, taking the ward from the African National Congress (ANC).

The party said its support in the ward rose from 14.21% in the 2021 local government elections to 32.36% in the latest vote. The ANC’s support declined from 50.90% to 32.14%.

The DA described the outcome as a major breakthrough, saying it was the party’s first victory in a township ward and a sign of growing support ahead of the 2026 local government elections.

According to the party, the results showed that more voters across the country were backing the DA’s message of improved service delivery, safer communities and job creation.

The DA said voters in Emfuleni, which it referred to as a previous ANC stronghold, had shown confidence in the party’s leadership and plans for local government.

The party also welcomed the election of new councillor, Maki Tshabalala, who it said would focus on improving service delivery in the area.

The DA further urged South Africans to make sure they are registered to vote where they live ahead of the November local government elections.

The party said it would continue campaigning across the country as it aims to expand its support in the upcoming elections.
