All Roads Lead to Church Square as Sundowns Celebrate CAF Glory

Football fever is expected to sweep across Tshwane on Tuesday as supporters prepare to welcome CAF champions, Mamelodi Sundowns FC, during a massive celebratory trophy parade through parts of Pretoria.

The City of Tshwane Metro Police confirmed that thousands of fans are expected to line the streets as the club celebrates its recent Confederation of African Football (CAF) triumph. The parade will officially conclude at Church Square in Pretoria Central, where the team is expected to present the trophy to the Executive Mayor.

According to the Tshwane Metro Police media alert issued on 25 May 2026, two player buses will travel on different routes across the city before converging in the Pretoria CBD. One convoy will depart from Mamelodi and move through areas including Sunnyside and Atteridgeville, while the second convoy will travel through northern Pretoria, stopping in Hammanskraal, Soshanguve, Mabopane and Ga-Rankuwa to engage with supporters.

Excitement has already erupted on social media following the release of the club’s “Second Star Parade” poster, with fans being urged to gather along the routes from 10am. The parade celebrates Sundowns securing another continental title and adding a second CAF star to the club’s growing legacy.

Motorists, however, have been warned to expect heavy traffic congestion and temporary road closures in and around Pretoria Central. Streets expected to be affected include WF Nkomo Street, Eskia Mphahlele Drive, Pretorius Street, Sophie de Bryn Street, Struben Street, Lillian Ngoyi Street, Paul Kruger Street, Helen Joseph Street, Bosman Street and Visagie Street.

Authorities have advised road users to make use of alternative routes such as Boom Street, Bloed Street, Johannes Ramokhoase Street and Francis Baard Street.

“Tshwane Metro Police and South African Police Service officers will be deployed to monitor all affected streets,” the statement read.

For many supporters, the parade is more than just a victory celebration — it is expected to become a historic moment of pride for Pretoria and South African football as the yellow nation floods the streets in celebration of Masandawana’s continental success.
