The Democratic Alliance (DA) is expected to lay criminal charges today, Monday, against former Ekurhuleni City Manager Dr. Imogen Mashazi and a businessman over alleged tender-related irregularities in the Ekurhuleni Metro.
According to the party, the charges are linked to reports alleging that Mashazi’s R3.5 million private jet trip to London in 2022 was connected to tenders awarded by the city.
The DA says its Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate, Khathutshelo Rasilingwane, will lay the charges at the Germiston Police Station.
Mashazi recently testified before the Madlanga Commission, where she made allegations of corruption and abuse of power within the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD).
Following her testimony, the commission referred Mashazi and several other officials from the Ekurhuleni Metro and the EMPD for criminal investigations. The referral also includes allegations relating to the luxury private jet flight, which was reportedly funded by a businessman.
