Court Delays Danny Jordaan Fraud Case To 27 August

The long-running fraud case involving South African Football Association (SAFA) President Danny Jordaan has hit another procedural delay, with the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court pushing the matter to 27 August 2026. Jordaan, alongside three co-accused, appeared briefly before the court in Ekurhuleni, where the state requested additional time to finalise outstanding disclosures and witness statements. The postponement marks the latest chapter in a legal saga that has shadowed the man credited with bringing the 2010 FIFA World Cup to South Africa.

Jordaan faces multiple charges, including fraud, theft, and the contravention of the Public Finance Management Act. Prosecutors allege that he misappropriated several million rand from SAFA’s coffers between 2014 and 2018, using the funds for personal expenses, including private security, travel, and even the hiring of a public relations firm to manage his image. His co-accused—former SAFA chief financial officer Gronie Hluyo and businessperson Trevor Neethling—face similar charges related to the alleged diversion of association funds.

Outside the courtroom, Jordaan’s legal team expressed frustration with the delays, insisting their client is innocent and ready to stand trial. “We have been ready for months,” one defense attorney told reporters. “The state needs to get its house in order.” The prosecution, however, maintains that the complexity of the financial investigation requires meticulous preparation, given the volume of bank statements and invoices still being analyzed.

Jordaan, who has led SAFA since 2013, remains free on bail. His position within the football body has come under increasing scrutiny, with some voices calling for him to step aside pending the outcome of the case. Meanwhile, the postponement to late August 2026 means a resolution—and potentially the full details of the allegations—remains months away. For South African football fans, the slow grind of justice continues.
