Health Minister, Aaron Motsoaledi, and Finance Minister, Enoch Godongwana, will on Tuesday visit Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital in Johannesburg, to assess ongoing repair work following a damning Public Protector report.
The visit comes amid concerns over a R1.7 billion funding shortfall that is needed to complete repairs over a five-year period.
The Public Protector found significant delays in the hospital’s repair work following the April 2021 fire. The report also revealed that only half of the R666 million allocated for the initial repairs was actually spent.
These findings have since been escalated to the Auditor-General for further scrutiny.
