Break in Louvre Heist Case: Five New Suspects Arrested as Hunt for Missing €88 Million Crown Jewels Intensifies

In a dramatic new development in the audacious Louvre Museum robbery, Parisian authorities have announced the arrest of five new suspects. However, the mystery deepens as the priceless crown jewels, valued at a staggering €88 million, remain missing.

Paris Public Prosecutor Laure Beccuau confirmed the arrests, which were carried out on Wednesday night in a coordinated operation across Paris and its surrounding suburbs, including the Seine-Saint-Denis department. Despite this significant breakthrough, Beccuau delivered a sobering update: the new detainees have “did not help us find the stolen goods,” leaving the priceless artifacts unaccounted for.

One of the five individuals is a prime target for investigators. Beccuau revealed that “we have traces of DNA linking him to the robbery,” stating unequivocally, “He’s one we had in our sights.” The other four suspects are believed to possess crucial knowledge about the logistics and execution of the multi-million-euro heist.

This latest police action follows the arrest of two other men last Saturday, who have reportedly “partially admitted” their involvement. They are expected to face severe charges, including organised theft and criminal conspiracy, carrying potential prison sentences of 15 and 10 years, respectively. Authorities believe these two men were the ones who physically entered the museum’s Apollo gallery.

The brazen theft, which unfolded on the morning of October 19th, was executed with stunning precision. A four-man gang used a stolen furniture truck equipped with a lift to access the first-floor gallery. Disguised in high-visibility vests, they smashed a window, cut open two display cases, and made their escape on waiting motorbikes—all in under seven minutes.

While they dropped one diamond-and-emerald crown in their haste, they escaped with eight other masterpieces, including an emerald necklace gifted by Napoleon to his wife, Marie Louise, and a diadem once belonging to Empress Eugénie, glittering with hundreds of pearls and nearly two thousand diamonds. As the net tightens around the suspects, the question on everyone’s mind remains: where are the jewels?
