Following the unveiling of a detailed US-sponsored peace plan for Gaza, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan has praised President Donald Trump’s “efforts and leadership.” The 20-point proposal, secured with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s support, promises an immediate ceasefire, a hostage exchange, and a path toward Hamas’s disarmament.
A major question looms over whether Hamas will accept the terms. Erdogan’s commendation, delivered via social media, positions Turkey as a potential contributor to a “just and lasting peace.” This overture from Ankara is closely watched, given its harsh criticism of Israel and its halted trade with the country.
The endorsement follows high-level coordination, with Turkey’s foreign minister discussing the proposal with regional counterparts, indicating a concerted effort to build consensus for the plan, whose ultimate success remains uncertain.
