The City of Tshwane has announced a coordinated operational plan to manage the impact of a planned Rand Water and Eskom maintenance shutdown set to take place from 29 May to 2 June 2026.
According to the City, the maintenance work on the Palmiet and Zuikerbosch water systems is expected to affect water supply to 69 reservoirs across Regions 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6. Residents in affected communities may experience low water pressure and intermittent water interruptions during this period.
MMC for Utility Services, Cllr Frans Boshielo, said the City has already begun preparations by filling reservoirs to maximum capacity and regulating water consumption in some areas to preserve supply for longer periods.
The City has also activated its Emergency Shutdown Operations Centre to monitor reservoir levels and coordinate the deployment of water tankers to communities facing severe disruptions. An additional 181 water tankers are currently being procured to support the existing municipal fleet.
Boshielo assured residents that teams will remain on the ground throughout the shutdown period to respond to challenges and maintain service continuity as far as possible.
Residents are being urged to use water sparingly during the maintenance period to help stabilize the network and speed up system recovery once the work is completed.
The City further warned that while the maintenance is expected to end within the scheduled timeframe, some areas may experience delayed water restoration as reservoirs and network systems recover gradually.
