South Africans are being urged to prepare for severe winter weather after the South African Weather Service (SAWS) warned that a powerful cut-off low-pressure system is expected to affect large parts of the country from Wednesday, 3 June, to Thursday, 4 June 2026.
According to SAWS, the system is expected to bring cold, wet and windy conditions to the central and southern regions of South Africa, with a risk of flooding in parts of the Eastern Cape and Western Cape.
Weather forecasts indicate widespread rainfall across the southern provinces, accompanied by strong winds and a significant drop in temperatures. Some higher-lying areas could also experience snowfall as the system moves across the country.
Authorities have cautioned residents in affected areas to remain vigilant, avoid crossing flooded roads and rivers, and monitor official weather updates. Emergency services are also on alert as heavy rainfall could lead to localized flooding, road closures and disruptions to daily activities.
