Planned Power Outage to Affect Entire Soshanguve on Sunday

Residents and businesses in Soshanguve have been warned of a rescheduled planned electricity supply interruption set to take place this coming Sunday, 18 January 2025, from 09:00 to 16:00.

The City of Tshwane confirmed that the planned outage is necessary to allow its technical teams to carry out essential maintenance work at the K3 Substation. According to the municipality, the work involves repairs to fibre-optic cables that have affected protection inter-trip systems and SCADA communication links between primary substations.

“These systems are critical for the safe and reliable operation of the electricity network,” the City said, adding that the maintenance is aimed at improving network stability and preventing unplanned outages in the future.

“The shutdown was initially scheduled for Sunday, 23 November 2025, but had to be postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. The City has now confirmed the new date and urged residents to make the necessary arrangements,” read the statement.

It is said that the planned interruption will affect the entire Soshanguve township, and residents have been cautioned to treat all electricity network points as live at all times during the outage period to avoid accidents.
