Senzo Meyiwa Family to Hold Picket at Union Buildings

The family of late former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa is expected to stage a picket at the Union Buildings Triangle in Pretoria on Tuesday, 19 May 2026, calling for presidential intervention in the long-running murder case.

According to a media alert issued by the Tshwane Metropolitan Police Department, the demonstration will begin at 09:30 and is expected to conclude by 13:00. The Meyiwa family says the purpose of the picket is to seek intervention from President Cyril Ramaphosa regarding progress in the murder investigation and court proceedings linked to the slain goalkeeper’s case.

Authorities confirmed that officers from the Tshwane Metro Police Department and the South African Police Service will be deployed in and around affected streets to monitor the gathering and maintain public order.

The notice was issued by the Tshwane Metro Police Communication Unit, which advised motorists and members of the public to expect heightened police visibility around the Union Buildings precinct during the demonstration.

Meyiwa was shot and killed in 2014, and the case has remained one of South Africa’s most closely watched murder trials, drawing continued public attention and calls for justice from supporters and family members alike.
