The Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court has denied bail to political fixer Brown Mogotsi, citing concerns over his lack of a fixed and verifiable residential address.
Mogotsi faces charges of allegedly faking an assassination attempt on his life as well as bribery. During bail proceedings, the State argued that authorities would face difficulties tracing him should he be released, as his residential address could not be properly verified.
In delivering its ruling, the court agreed with the State’s concerns, finding that the absence of a confirmed address posed a risk and weighed against granting bail.
As a result, Mogotsi will remain in custody while the case continues. The matter has attracted significant public interest due to his alleged political connections and the serious nature of the charges.
