Umalusi CEO Dr. Mafu Rakometsi has announced that the Education Quality Assurance Council will no longer oversee the National Certificate Vocational (NCV) examinations or issue certificates to successful candidates.
Speaking at a media briefing on Wednesday, Rakometsi confirmed that Umalusi is fully prepared for the 2025 end-of-year national examinations, which are scheduled to begin on 20 October. He also clarified that Umalusi will continue to provide quality assurance for Level 4 qualifications.
The council reported that both public and private assessment bodies, including the Departments of Basic and Higher Education, the Independent Examinations Board, and SACAI, are ready to administer the National Senior Certificate and other qualifications.
Rakometsi emphasized that assessment bodies must implement a three-tier moderation process for School-Based Assessments, covering the school, cluster, and assessment body levels. He also urged the Department of Basic Education to finalize guidelines for establishing national standards for registering online schools through Provincial Education Departments and to clarify the requirements for Umalusi accreditation of online schools.
