Boksburg – Dozens of schoolchildren were injured in a road accident in Boksburg on Tuesday morning after a collision involving a learner transport vehicle and another motorist.
Emergency services reported that the crash occurred on the R554 in the Rondebult area, where a bakkie collided with a minibus taxi transporting pupils.
According to officials, the impact left multiple children injured, with injuries ranging from critical to minor.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene within minutes and began stabilising the injured before transporting them to various hospitals for further medical treatment.
Spokesperson for the City of Ekurhuleni emergency services, Tikkie Macdonald, confirmed that despite the seriousness of the crash, no fatalities were reported at the scene.
“The impact resulted in multiple casualties, with injuries ranging from critical to minor. Firefighters and paramedics were on scene within minutes to secure the area,” Macdonald said.
Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution on the roads, particularly during peak morning traffic when learner transport vehicles are active.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are underway.
