The Mayor of Moretele Local Municipality, Councillor Masango George Manyike, has praised the Makapanstad South African Police Service and the Hawks Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation for their quick and coordinated operation that resulted in the arrest of 6 suspects and the discovery of drugs worth millions in Makapanstad.
The operation was carried out by the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation team together with Counter Narcotics and Gangs from the Western Cape. During the operation, officers uncovered a secret mandrax manufacturing laboratory on a small holding in Thulwe, north west of Maubane.
Mayor Manyike applauded the commitment and alertness of the law enforcement teams, saying their work shows a strong stance against criminal activities that endanger the safety and well being of communities in Moretele.
“This breakthrough sends a clear message that illegal drug production and distribution will not be allowed in our municipality. We appreciate the fast response and teamwork between the Hawks and our local police. Their efforts help protect our youth and communities from the harmful effects of drugs,” said Mayor Manyike.
The municipality remains committed to working with law enforcement agencies to fight crime and ensure safer neighbourhoods.
