Controversial Limpopo rapper Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, widely known by his stage name Shebeshxt, was arrested by police at his Bendor home on Wednesday morning in connection with a violent road rage incident that left a 34-year-old man fighting for his life last month.
The arrest marks the latest and most serious legal entanglement for the 30-year-old musician, whose career has been persistently shadowed by brushes with the law, including a recent fatal car crash.
According to Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the alleged assault occurred on October 26 in Westenburg, Polokwane. Preliminary investigations indicate that a verbal altercation between Shebeshxt and the victim, both motorists, escalated dramatically.
“It is alleged that the suspect and the victim were involved in a road rage incident,” Col. Ledwaba stated. “During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly produced a firearm and shot the victim in the upper body.”
The bullet struck the victim in the solar plexus—a critical area of the upper abdomen. Emergency services rushed the man to a nearby hospital, where he remains in a critical but stable condition. The gravity of the injury underscores the severity of the alleged attack.
Following weeks of investigation, a police task team traced Shebeshxt to his residence in the upscale Bendor suburb, where he was taken into custody without incident. He has been charged with attempted murder and is expected to be processed for possession of an unlicensed firearm.
The rapper is scheduled to make his first appearance in the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Thursday. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is expected to oppose bail, citing the violent nature of the crime and the potential risk to the victim.
