Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi will convene a media briefing on Wednesday, 22 October 2025, to deliver a comprehensive update on plans to strengthen the capacity and operations of the province’s Traffic Wardens.
The briefing, scheduled for 10:00 at 55 Marshall Street in Marshalltown, Johannesburg, will outline the next phase of the government’s plan to consolidate the programme—a key component of Gauteng’s broader safety and law enforcement strategy.
According to the provincial government, the update will highlight how the province aims to enhance the wardens’ effectiveness in maintaining road safety and supporting community policing initiatives.
The initiative is part of Premier Lesufi’s ongoing #GrowASaferGauteng campaign. It follows previous measures to increase law enforcement visibility, improve response times, and integrate community safety structures across the province.
Lesufi has been vocal about transforming Gauteng’s safety landscape through the increased recruitment, training, and deployment of law enforcement officers. This includes the controversial yet popular Traffic Warden programme, which was launched to reduce crime and restore public confidence in the province’s policing systems.
