Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that midfielder Thabo Cele has left the club after the two parties agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent, marking the latest departure in what has been a significant squad overhaul at Naturena ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
The decision, announced on Tuesday, follows what the club described as “constructive discussions” between Cele’s representatives and Chiefs management, with both sides agreeing that it was in the best interest of the player and the club to part ways. In a brief statement, Amakhosi said: “Kaizer Chiefs have terminated Thabo Cele’s contract by mutual agreement, following constructive discussions between both parties.”
Cele, who joined Chiefs with high expectations, now becomes a free agent and will be able to “pursue new opportunities” elsewhere. The club thanked him for his contribution during his spell at Naturena, affectionately referring to him by his nickname, “Induna Yendawo”, and wishing him “the very best in his future career.”
