Orlando Pirates have pulled off a major coup in the final hours of the transfer window, announcing the season-long loan return of fan-favourite winger Mohau Nkota from Saudi Arabian club Al-Ettifaq. The move, confirmed on Thursday, has sent waves of excitement through the Buccaneers’ faithful, who have fond memories of the academy product’s breakthrough performances during the 2024/25 season.
Nkota, 23, originally made the R40 million switch to the Saudi Pro League in July 2025 after a stellar campaign that saw him net seven goals and provide five assists in 39 appearances for Pirates. However, his time in the Middle East was hampered by a persistent knee injury and the tragic passing of his father, which affected his form and settled only two goals in 22 appearances. The loan deal offers the winger a fresh start and an opportunity to rediscover the form that made him one of South Africa’s most exciting young talents.
Pirates fans have been buzzing with anticipation, with many hoping that Nkota’s return will provide an additional spark to an already prolific attack.
