Hisense Doubles Down on South Africa with First Flagship Store and Showcase for Locally-Made Tech Giant

In a major vote of confidence for the local economy, international tech giant Hisense is set to open its first-ever premium brand store in South Africa at Cape Town’s Canal Walk this November. The move marks a significant evolution for the company, transitioning from a household name on shelves to a destination for high-tech experiences.

The flagship store is designed as an immersive showroom where customers can interact with the brand’s most advanced products. The centerpiece will be the colossal 116-inch UX television—the largest in Africa—which is proudly manufactured at Hisense’s plant in Atlantis, Cape Town.

This retail launch is the latest milestone in a nearly 30-year commitment to South Africa. The company highlighted its deep local roots, pointing to its R350 million investment in the Atlantis factory, which employs over 1,000 people and produces goods for both the local market and export.

“For over a decade, we’ve invested heavily in South Africa’s technology ecosystem,” said Luna Nortje, Deputy General Manager at Hisense South Africa. She described the store as a “natural extension” of a commitment that includes a new learnership programme for 100 local youth.

More than just a retail space, the store positions Hisense as a key player in local skills development and manufacturing, proving that world-class technology isn’t just imported, but can be created and innovated right here in South Africa.
