Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus has acknowledged the “emotional decision” surrounding where captain Siya Kolisi will earn his 100th Test cap, but has firmly placed team performance above personal sentiment. With Kolisi set to reach the landmark on the upcoming end-of-year tour, Erasmus stressed that planning around it could risk losing crucial matches.
“We can’t always plan where players will earn their 100th Test cap,” Erasmus stated. “If you start thinking too much about it, that’s when you start risking losing Tests.” While celebrating the milestone, the coach’s focus remains on integrating a wider group of players, including others nearing their own milestones like Makazole Mapimpi (50 caps), ensuring the team’s strength is not compromised for a single, albeit historic, occasion.
