DJ Sumbody’s Alleged Murder Accused Granted R400,000 Bail

Businessman Katiso “TK” Molefe, the man accused of orchestrating the murder of renowned music producer Oupa “DJ Sumbody” Sefoka, has been granted bail of R400,000 by the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg.

The ruling follows Molefe’s successful appeal of a prior decision by the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court, which denied him bail in August. Judge Brad Wanless overturned the lower court’s ruling, describing it as a “misdirection” and stating that the State had failed to present sufficient grounds to justify continued detention.

Molefe faces a series of serious charges, including murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and the illegal possession of firearms. He is alleged to have orchestrated the November 20, 2022, shooting that killed Sefoka and his bodyguards, Sibusiso Mokoena and Sandile Myeza.

As part of his strict bail conditions, Molefe must:

  • Report to the Morningside Police Station three times a week (Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays) between 06:00 and 18:00.
  • Remain within the Gauteng province, except for travel to Welkom in the Free State for business purposes, which requires prior notification to authorities.
  • Surrender his passport to the investigating officer.
  • Refrain from contacting any state witnesses.
  • Attend all future court proceedings as scheduled.
