Defence to Call New Witness as Meyiwa Murder Trial Resumes

The defence in the murder trial of former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa is expected to present a new witness when proceedings resume on Tuesday in the Pretoria High Court.

This follows the conclusion of testimony from Makhosonke Zungu, who wrapped up his appearance on Friday. Five men stand accused in connection with Meyiwa’s fatal shooting in 2014.

In recent weeks, the defence has been calling witnesses who were previously listed by the state but were ultimately not called to testify during the prosecution’s case.

Zungu was among those witnesses and had previously submitted a statement to police containing serious allegations. While testifying for the defence, he confirmed that he had signed the statement but distanced himself from its contents, which claimed that the accused were known and dangerous hitmen.

The trial is set to continue with further defence evidence as the case enters its next phase.
