The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Tshwane has accused the ANC-EFF-ActionSA coalition of hypocrisy after MMC for Corporate and Shared Services Eugene Modise led a media briefing on the City’s anti-corruption supply chain management system.
In a statement, DA Tshwane Finance Spokesperson Jacqui Uys said it was ironic for Modise to speak on fighting corruption while facing allegations linked to financial misconduct. The DA says a City forensic investigation found that Modise financially benefited from Triotic Protection Services, a company that continues to receive about R3 million per month from the City. It claims the coalition only imposed a two-month salary deduction while allowing the company’s contract to continue.
The party also says Modise’s name has emerged before the Madlanga Commission and alleges he may be linked to broader corruption involving water tanker, waste management and security contracts. The DA further claims the Speaker of Council has failed to act on its request for an investigation.
The DA says it will write to the Gauteng MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs to request intervention over what it describes as the Speaker’s failure to process its request for an investigation. The party says it will continue pushing for greater accountability and transparency within the City of Tshwane.
