Thousands of residents across Tshwane are being urged to prepare for a planned 12-hour water supply interruption on Friday, 17 July 2026, as Rand Water and Eskom carry out critical maintenance on the Palmiet and Mapleton water systems.
The City of Tshwane has announced that the interruption forms part of Phase 2 of the scheduled maintenance programme, which will take place from 08:00 until 20:00. During this period, water supply is expected to be affected in Regions 1, 3, 4 and 6, as well as parts of Regions 2 and 5.
According to the City, the maintenance is necessary to ensure the long-term reliability of the bulk water infrastructure. However, the temporary shutdown is expected to reduce water availability across several reservoirs and supply networks.
The municipality said no pumping will take place to the Mapleton System throughout the 12-hour maintenance period, while the Palmiet System will continue operating at only 78% capacity, a move that could result in low water pressure or complete water outages in some areas.
Residents are encouraged to store enough water in advance for drinking, cooking and sanitation, while also using available water sparingly before and after the maintenance period to help stabilise the system once pumping resumes.
The City has apologised for the inconvenience and appealed for public patience, saying the planned work is essential to maintaining a reliable water supply network for Tshwane residents.
