Ekurhuleni mayoral candidate and ActionSA councillor Xolani Khumalo has been found not guilty on all charges brought against him, bringing an end to a court case that attracted significant public attention.
In a statement released on Thursday, ActionSA welcomed the verdict, saying the outcome confirmed that justice had prevailed. The party said it had stood firmly behind Khumalo throughout the legal process and maintained confidence in his innocence.
The party described the case as a politically motivated attempt to derail Khumalo’s efforts to combat crime and drug-related activities in communities across Ekurhuleni. According to the party, individuals linked to criminal networks sought to distract Khumalo from his community work by keeping him tied up in lengthy court proceedings.
The party further argued that the case reflected growing resistance from criminal elements who feel threatened by efforts to tackle drug syndicates and corruption in the municipality.
With the matter now concluded, ActionSA says Khumalo will shift his full attention to his mayoral campaign ahead of the local government elections. The party believes his focus will be on engaging residents, improving service delivery and continuing the fight against crime in communities across Ekurhuleni.
