Law enforcement agencies are ramping up operational readiness ahead of planned demonstrations scheduled for 30 June 2026, with Acting Minister of Police Firoz Cachalia set to address a major police parade at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on Friday.
The parade forms part of the South African Police Service’s nationwide state of readiness and operational mobilisation as authorities prepare for possible protest action across the country.
Cachalia will be joined by Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, Acting National Commissioner Lieutenant General Puleng Dimpane, co-chairpersons of the National Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (NATJOINTS), provincial commissioners and senior SAPS management.
Police have reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding the constitutional right to peaceful protest while warning that violence, intimidation, destruction of property and criminal conduct will be dealt with decisively.
The heightened security preparations come amid growing tensions surrounding immigration-related operations and demonstrations expected later this month.
Meanwhile, Gauteng Provincial Police Commissioner Tommy Mthombeni has warned that individuals found sheltering or assisting undocumented foreign nationals could face fines of up to R10,000 per person.
Mthombeni said law enforcement agencies are intensifying immigration enforcement operations across the province and stressed that harbouring undocumented migrants could constitute an offence under existing legislation.
“Our responsibility is to uphold the law without fear or favour. Those who knowingly assist individuals who are in the country illegally may face legal consequences,” Mthombeni warned.
Authorities say the upcoming operations will focus on maintaining public order, enforcing immigration laws and ensuring the safety of all residents while respecting constitutional rights.
The police parade on Friday is expected to demonstrate the state’s readiness to respond to any security threats as the country approaches the planned 30 June demonstrations.
