Residents in the City of Tshwane will pay more for municipal services from 1 July 2026 as the municipality’s new tariffs for the 2026/27 financial year officially come into effect.
The increases form part of the City’s R58.4 billion budget, which comprises an operating budget of R55.6 billion and a capital budget of R2.8 billion. The adjusted tariffs will be reflected on municipal accounts issued at the end of July.
The approved increases are:
Property rates: 5%
Electricity: 8.8%
Water: 10%
Sanitation: 5%
Refuse removal: 4.1%
MMC for Finance Eugene Modise said the tariff adjustments are intended to ensure the City remains financially sustainable while continuing to provide quality services to residents.
“The 2026/27 tariff increases are necessary to ensure the City remains financially sustainable and can continue delivering essential services while investing in infrastructure that supports our growing communities,” said Modise.
The increases come at a time when many households are already grappling with the rising cost of living, with the 10% water tariff increase and 8.8% electricity hike expected to place additional pressure on residents’ finances.
The new tariffs take effect on 1 July 2026, with residents expected to see the adjusted charges on their municipal accounts issued at the end of July.
