Vodacom South Africa Appoints Sibongile Ngwenya as Managing Executive: Talent & Culture

Vodacom South Africa has announced the appointment of Sibongile Ngwenya as its new Managing Executive for Talent & Culture, a strategic move aimed at strengthening the telecommunications giant’s leadership bench as competition for skilled digital talent intensifies across the industry.

Ngwenya joins Vodacom South Africa with an impressive 18-year track record across some of the country’s most prominent organisations, including Absa, the South African Revenue Service (SARS), M-Net, and MultiChoice. Her career at MultiChoice was particularly notable, spanning transformation, HR business partnering, Rest of Africa leadership, and talent management. This diverse experience has equipped her with a deep understanding of shaping people strategy, building organisational capability, and cultivating high-performing teams across African markets.

In her new role, Ngwenya will lead the talent and culture agenda for Vodacom South Africa, which is Vodacom Group’s largest market and a critical driver of the company’s growth strategy. She will be responsible for attracting, developing, and retaining top talent in an increasingly competitive digital economy, while fostering a workplace culture that supports innovation, inclusion, and high performance.

Ngwenya holds a master’s degree in entrepreneurship and new venture creation from Wits Business School, a qualification that combines people leadership with commercial thinking, an asset in a role that demands both strategic vision and operational execution.

Her appointment comes as telecommunications companies across South Africa and the continent compete fiercely for skilled professionals in fields such as data science, cybersecurity, digital marketing, and software engineering. By bringing in a leader of Ngwenya’s calibre, Vodacom is signalling its commitment to investing in human capital as a cornerstone of its long-term success.

“I am excited to join Vodacom at such a pivotal time in its journey,” Ngwenya said. “Talent and culture are the engine of any successful organisation, and I look forward to working with the team to build on the strong foundation that already exists.”

Her appointment is effective immediately. For Vodacom, Ngwenya’s arrival represents a strategic investment in its most valuable asset, its people. For Ngwenya, it is the next chapter in a distinguished career defined by transformation, leadership, and impact.
