South Africa is mourning the loss of legendary actor and theatre icon Septula Sebogodi, whose family has confirmed that he passed away on the evening of 15 July 2026 following complications related to diabetes.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the Sebogodi family announced the veteran performer’s passing and appealed for privacy as they grieve.
“The immediate family of Septula Sebogodi confirms, with profound sadness, his passing on the evening of 15 July 2026 following complications related to diabetes. The family kindly requests privacy as they mourn this immense loss and navigate this difficult time together,” the family said.
Sebogodi was one of South Africa’s most respected actors, leaving an enduring mark on both television and theatre over a career spanning several decades. He will be remembered for his memorable performances in popular productions including Generations, Suburban Bliss, Bophelo Ke Semphego, Redemption, and most recently Scandal!.
Beyond television, he built an impressive legacy on stage, appearing in acclaimed productions such as Big Dada, Waiting for Godot, The Rivonia Trial, Once a Pirate, and Mooi Street Moves, among many others.
The family described his contribution to the arts as extraordinary, saying, “His legacy will live on through his remarkable body of work and the many lives he touched.”
