UN Expert Brands Gaza Crisis a “Collective Crime,” Names Western Powers as Complicit in Genocide

In a damning new report presented to the UN, Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese has declared the violence in Gaza a “genocide” fueled by an “international system of complicity,” directly implicating Western powers for their unwavering support of Israel.

The report, titled “Gaza Genocide: a collective crime,” singles out the United States, Germany, and Italy as key enablers, providing the diplomatic, military, and economic backing that has allowed the atrocities to continue. Albanese, who presented her findings from Cape Town due to US sanctions against her, stated that military cooperation is “the most significant form of complicity,” with the US and Germany alone accounting for 90% of Israel’s arms imports.

The findings were presented amid a sharp escalation of violence, as Israel launched new airstrikes on Gaza City, shattering a fragile ceasefire. The report’s release was overshadowed by a shocking personal attack from the Israeli ambassador to the UN, who called Albanese a “witch,” a remark swiftly condemned by the session’s chair and fellow UN human rights experts who labeled the sanctions and attacks on her as “unlawful” and an assault on the UN system itself.
