Tshwane Metro Police Crack Down on Illegal Businesses

The Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) arrested 46 undocumented immigrants and shut down six liquor outlets for non-compliance during a series of by-law enforcement operations across the city on Thursday, 20 November 2025.

The coordinated operations were carried out in Ga-Rankuwa, Centurion, Garsfontein, and Mamelodi. According to the TMPD, two business owners were also arrested for employing undocumented immigrants, an offence that contravenes the Labour Employment Act.

Several additional businesses were inspected for adherence to municipal and trading regulations. This resulted in the issuing of multiple Section 56 notices, and the confiscation of counterfeit goods, tampered packaging, and expired food products.

The TMPD said the operation forms part of the City of Tshwane’s ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal trading, protect consumers, and ensure that businesses operate within the law.
